At the conference Progress in Deprivation various strategies and instruments of neighbourhood development are discussed. Urban renewal and neighbourhood management are central strategies that range from leadership and organisation to new ways to serve citizens and to attract new inhabitants.
Background:
All large cities are facing similar problems in their deprived areas: obsolete housing stock, crumbling social cohesion and declining economic support for facilities. A wide selection of social problems leads deprived areas into a downward spiral. Several measures have been developed by local politicians and civil servants to improve living conditions in these deprived areas.
